The Wild Rumpus 2011 Halloween Parade and Spectacle SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29! WELCOME TO THE PARTY in 2011!!!!! 2011 marks the Wild Rumpus' 3rd running. Last Year, TORO! the bull was an unstoppable force in the streets... crowds swelled to critical mass and the spontaneous spirit of Rumpus was almost too wild to contain! Thousands of costumed revelers marched and danced to the pounding drums in the middle of the streets of downtown Athens! To be sure, our small city has never seen anything like it. This year's theme, Shadow, is based on the double-sided trickery of the zodiac's social butterfly, GEMINI. Get ready to expose your secret inner fantasies in this, the 3rd incarnation of Athens' craziest event, WILD RUMPUS 3!!! AMAZING ANNOUNCEMENT: In 2011 the Wild Rumpus Party is scheduled to be hosted by the newly revived GEORGIA THEATRE!!! Click here for details and to see the entertainment lineup... Except if one was to look closer, one would notice a mischievous quality to the lovely winged sprite... hair curls resembling horns, a mildly devilish expression, exposed belly, and above all- she throws a shadow of a screeching dragon! Our Founding Princliple: The vision of The Wild Rumpus is to provide an organized avenue for the massive array of Athens creativity which manifests with such awesome power every Halloween. In the style and spirit of events like Burning Man or The Oregon Country Fair, The Wild Rumpus can serve as a safe and highly visible outlet for these creativities. Halloween is Athens' Mardi Gras. For those who have never experienced it, it could be described as mayhem in the streets. Known regardless as one of the top 5 party destinations in the nation, Athens is also "Never Never Land" to an active population of wildly creative, experimental artists and musicians. The colorful vibe of the artists carries over into the enormous student population of the University of Georgia, which LOVES a good time, resulting in an inventive mix of fun, creativity and revelry. The Halloween holiday is the pinnacle event of this bubbling stew of artistic self-expression, costuming and gleeful abandon. This year we seek to organize this event again for the purpose of channeling the creative spirit into a collaborative, all-inclusive, peaceful, fun time for all. 2011 marks the Wild Rumpus' 3rd running.
